Club Dinner Cancellation
Although the President, Sir Tim Rice, announced at the Spring Reception that the Guest of Honour at this year’s Lancing Club Dinner would be Rory Bremner, Rory has unfortunately had to postpone his engagement with us. It has not proved possible to arrange another suitable speaker at short notice.
It has therefore been decided to postpone the Dinner on 30th October 2009 with the intent of rearranging it for May 2010 when we hope that Rory Bremner will be available.
The Club Chairman extends his apologies and we hope that this has not caused too much inconvenience for those who had intended to come. Refunds will be made to those who have already paid for tickets.
The next Club function will be the Lancing Club Carol Service at Chelsea Old Church at 7pm on Monday 14 December. The President and the committee look forward to seeing you there. |

This year the Lancing Club went afloat for the AGM and Spring Reception aboard the HQS Wellington - headquarters of the Master Mariners Association on the Thames Embankment.
The AGM was held in the Court Room, surrounded by maritime memorabilia and portraits of weather-beaten mariners. In the lobby outside the Court Room hangs the ‘only portrait of Edward VIII as King’. The AGM was rather better attended than in recent years – some 30 OLs were there.

SURREXIT – Lancing College Chapel Choir’ latest CD For three glorious evenings last summer term we all trekked off to the medieval church of Boxgrove Priory near Chichester. Lilac blossoms hung rich and creamy in the warm sunshine, but the church itself was cool and welcoming, its vaults still bedecked with those delicate tendrils painted there in the reign of Henry VIII. The doors were shut, the singers took up their positions beneath the central tower, and the recording light came on. The first of over 100 takes was underway, Michael Haller’s Easter motet Surrexit pastor bonus. The 12th century monastic building filled with chords and counterpoint as dusk drew on, and more and more one could sense the truth in the words of the former Times editor, Simon Jenkins, when he wrote of that central space in the Priory church: “its crossing is a mystery of light and dark”. Over those three evenings we would try to capture something of this mystery in our singing, of this elusive light and dark. The CD is now available to purchase for £10.00 plus P&P and you can also listen to a few tracks on the Lancing College Website.

Lancing Club Annual Dinner – House of Commons - 31st October 2008
This year it was our great privilege to dine in the Members Dining Room at the House of Commons - through the good offices of Robert Wilson (Seconds 1964) the Principal Clerk of the Select Committees. It was a brilliant event in a magnificent setting - altogether a most memorable evening for all who were there.

New Treasurer Elected! This year the AGM and Reception was held in the splendid surroundings of the Hurlingham Club on the banks of the River Thames near Putney Bridge. A small gathering of all the usual faces showed up for the AGM.
Sir Tim Rice conducted the meeting once again with his usual efficiency and good humour.
